EZE'S GUIDE TO THE WIZARD TOWER
Wizard Towers are powerful short ranged defensive structures that deal Splash Damage, similar to the Mortar. (only the Wizard Tower's blast does not have a knock back effect) They are 1st available in TH 5 and in that particular TH Level they are by far the elite defense on your base. Wizard Towers are excellent against lower HP troops that need to fight in large groups in order to be effective. Due to their splash damage they have the ability to wipe out swarms of Archers, Barbarians or Goblins in a couple of swift shots. They also shoot at a quick 1.3 seconds so many players post the Wizard Tower up along obvious entry points on their village to prevent the Wall Breakers from reaching and breaching the Walls.
Wizard Towers can shoot ground OR air targets which is another huge advantage. Balloons have a particularly difficult time with the Wizard Towers because they are another troop that tends to group up once they enter the base. Wizard Towers do have a weakness however and that is their overall damage is not really high enough to be a substantial threat to troops like the Golem, Dragon or P.E.K.K.A. These troops will shake off the Wizard Tower blasts like they would the spring rain. Keep this in mind when designing your base! Successful attacks using formations like the LaLoon or LaLoonian can depend on the proper positioning of the Wizard Towers. A great example of this is in the LaLoon.. The attacking player 1st deploys the Lava Hounds to cover up the Air Defenses. Once the Air Defenses are occupied attackers can deploy the Balloons and they will reach havoc on your base... Now if your Wizard Towers are too close to the Air Defenses they will join the Air Defenses, attempting to shoot the Lava Hounds out of the sky leaving the Balloons completely uncontested. If the Wizard Towers are positioned far enough away from the "A.D." as the Balloons enter the base the Wizard Towers will enjoy a multitude of free shots on the Balloons depreciating the value of that attack overall.. In short be mindful of where you place you Wizard Towers!
Upgrading the Wizard Tower can be a daunting task. Between the cost and their high Base Weight (also known as Raw Weight or War Weight) there is much to consider before blindly diving into the upgrade. The biggest factor in the Wizard Tower is their overall value. There is an equation that you should have somewhere in the back of your mind when upgrading all of your defenses that consists of their Base Weight (remember the higher your weight the harder your opponents in Clan Wars) and their value. In the case of the Wizard Tower there is so much value to this defense because of their high HP and tough defense against all single housing space troops and against the 3 star specialist troops like the Balloon and Hog Rider. Many players do their Wizard Towers 1st. I would suggest doing them either right after your Hidden Tesla Towers (always my 1st upgrade choice at every TH LVL) or 3rd following the Teslas and Air Defenses. The Wizard Tower's splash damage makes them a prime candidate for the early upgrade. They are worth it even though they
have a significant amount of Base Weight
that they will add to your base.
Remember an easy tip
for the order of your upgrades
is to simply upgrade the highest
priced defenses 1st.. They are the
highest cost to upgrade for a
reason.. They are worth it!
Overall the Wizard Tower is a
potent defensive piece from the
time you can get them in TH5 all
the way till they are maxed in
TH11. They are a tricky defense
to place on you map so keep a few things in mind like the
Balloon Pathing (staying clear of the Air Defenses) they are short
ranged to they are a practical pair for the long ranged Mortar. Another big tip that I'm sure Damage Inc. will not be too thrilled about me sharing is to place you Double Giant Bombs next to a Wizard Tower. There are times Where the Double "BB" don't quite kill the horde of Hog Riders that are hopping walls and smashing your base BUT one quick shot from the Wizard Towers splash damaging blast is usually all it takes to finish the job.. Goodbye Piggies Hello BBQ!
Another good defensive measure to take will be to place an Air Bomb (the red balloon) next to the Wizard Tower. They will help in the fight against the Balloons in the super dangerous LaLoon attack. The Air Bomb also does splash damage so the combination between the damage that the Air Bomb will do in addition to the Wizard Tower's splash damage could help drop those Loons from the sky before they wipe it clean! Keep in mind that the Balloon does splash damage as well do do not place the Wizard Towers to where they are touching each other. You don't want one Balloon drop to take out two Wizard Towers!
