The Barbarian King is the 1st Hero available to players at TH7. His initial cost is a hearty 10,000 Dark Elixir (this will give you his Alter) He is an immortal troop which means he will never die. In combat he will stand still with a dazed look once all of his Hit points are expired. Like all of the Heroes in the game of Clash he has special abilities. His ability starts once you upgrade the King to lvl 5. This is called "The Iron Fist." The Iron Fist is triggered by clicking on the King after he is in play, this initiates a series of events that include the spawning of several Barbarians (the actual number of Barbs will depend on the Barbarian Kings level) to join the King in combat along with a generous rejuvenation of Hit Points along with enraging the Barbarian King (which increases his speed and damage per second drastically) Every Barbarian within the Kings range will also become enraged along with him, must of which will follow the King from target to target but on many occasions they will split up.

The Barbarian King is a TANKING SPECIALIST.
meaning that he has high hit points and can withstand
tons of damage. He engages in point combat which
means that he attacks defenses and buildings standing directly in front of them. What this does is force those defenses to shoot at him, leaving what ever troops behind him in a safe zone. Tanking Specialists like the Barbarian King along with the Golem, Giants and Lava Hound are designed to be use in combination with the Damage Specialists like the Archer Queen, Wizards and Balloons. The combination of the Tanking Specialists standing in the front absorbing loads of damage and the Damage Specialists that stand back and unload their high DPS attacks becomes an overpowering one-two punch. The Barbarian King is especially good at digging deep into a base once his ability the Iron Fist is initiated. Well placed jump spells will assist him and his Maud squad of Barbarian followers in clearing out key defenses, triggering traps and even knocking out the defending Archer Queen… these are all high value targets
for the 1st stage of any complex attack. Lets get into a few
of the Barbarian Kings key attributes in his role in
complex attacks.
The Barbarian King is not effected by Spring Traps. Bombs have
little effect on him. Giant Bombs hardly scratch a high level, healthy
Barbarian King or "BK" as many refer to him. Because of these facts
the BK is often used in combination with Golems and Wizards as part
of the Kill Squad. The Kill Squad (which we have mentioned on many
occasions) is deployed in the 1st stage of attacks with several key targets on a list of "things to do" before the 2nd and/or final stages of the attack can begin. Common goals for the Kill Squad include, pulling and eliminating the defending Clan Castle troops, killing the Defending Archer Queen, pushing through any areas that may contain Hidden Tesla Towers, Giant Bombs (especially potential double Giant Bomb locations when planning on using Hog Riders in the 2nd or final stages of the attack) triggering as many Spring Traps as possible and destroying one or even two Air Defenses if planning on using air troops in the next phase of the attack. The BK is so tough that he will often lead the charge into these well defended locations of the base that few other troops can survive for more than a few seconds. The use of the BK in the Kill Squad is becoming more and more popular as the use of Healers and the Archer Queen also gains in popularity. The reason for this is that you do not want your Healers to heal the BK.. You need them to stay focused on the fragile Archer Queen and as long as they are in proximity of each other the Healers tend to stay over the troop with the highest HP which when they are both healthy will be the King.
On defense the Barbarian King has a territory in which he lurks and defends. As soon as a troop enters his territory he will become alerted, jump over walls if necessary and attack the troops in the area. Air troops are not effected by the BK's attack which makes the BK the lesser of the defenders between him and the Queen.
Be careful when placing the BK on your map too! Players like
placing him, near Town Hall because he is such a bulky defender
BUT, his presence may actually draw troops like the Dragon who
may otherwise path away from Town Hall directly to Town Hall.
You may opt to allow the Barbarian King to sleep on defense.
What this does is lessens your base's ability to defend itself but your King will not be in a regeneration stage when you log on to play. The amount of time that the King needs to sleep at his alter to regenerate his strength and rejoin your attack force will depend greatly on the BK's level. It starts out at a modest 10 minutes and goes up 1 minute for every level that the BK advances. This was cut down from a 30 minute start time and 2 minutes each lvl in the May 2016 hero update when all larger troops "make" times were drastically cut down to improve on the overall gaming experience.
Some other good facts to know

-
A Rage Spell used during the Barbarian King's (BK's) ability will not stack up so you do not want to Rage your BK just after you pop his ability.
-
The Barbarian King's ability goes up to the next tier every 5 levels that you upgrade him on the 5's. So at level 5,10,15 etc you will see an increase in his special ability the Iron Fist both in your BKs actual strength and speed and in the total number of Barbarians that he will summon to battle.
-
During Barbarian King upgrades he starts off at a 12 hour upgrade period. This goes up 12 hours with each new level until he reaches level 15. From lvl 15 on he stays at a 7 day Training time for his next level.
-
For those who use gems to quicken the wait period, you will have to dish out 999 gems for each level from the 15th forward.. 999 gems earns you 7 days with the BK. I would suggest that you learn how to play without him!
-
Does healing your BK seem like it takes forever? Your not crazy.. it does! The Barbarian King heals from Heal Spells and from the Healers Ability at 1/2 the pace of all other troops!
As of December 2017 (Winter Update) The Barbarian King tops our at level 50! We are in the process of gathering as much info on these top 5 levels and will post more on this ASAP!
The other balancing changes in the Winter 2017 Update which include changing the effectiveness of the Inferno Towers in both TH10 and 11 have made it necessary to reconsider the placement of the Barbarian King's alter on your map. It may be necessary to more the "BK" closer to the Inferno Towers to help them on defense. Attackers can HEAL through the Inferno beams (unlike pre-update) so moving the "BK" in next to an Inferno Tower may buy the Inferno some much needed time. Attacking troops will have to eliminate the BK before moving onto the Inferno all the while the Inferno will systematically fry the closest attacker while in Single Target Mode (just a prediction at this point)

Overall the Barbarian King is a vital part of your offensive and defensive capabilities and should be regarded as the 2nd most important piece on your base behind the Archer Queen.. If you ask EZE the Archer Queen rules the Clash World! From the moment you get the Barbarian King you should change your resource hunting technique and start hunting Dark Elixir. Start upgrading your King ASAP and DO NOT STOP! The goal is to max him out at every TH level before you go to the next.. This is a key part of the game!

Final thought on the Barbarian King that must be stated... If you want to be an ELITE PLAYER you begin with your Heroes. This means that you upgrade your King to lvl 5 in TH7 and to lvl 10 in TH8 and then you upgrade him all the way to lvl 30 in TH9 before you make the jump to TH10. If you use the .5 METHOD you should still max out your Heroes before going to next TH level. This point can not be stresses enough! Maxed Heroes make you the guy/gal that no one want to see plowing through their base so stop asking if you should and just do it! You will not regret it!
