EZE'S GUIDE TO THE POISON SPELL
The Poison Spell is the 1st of the Dark Elixir Spells that you get once you purchase the Dark Spell Factory. It takes up 1 housing space and can be donated to your clan mates as soon as they have the Dark Spell Factory themselves. Poison Spells do two things to troops that are in the spell' radius or affected area. It slows them down and damages them. The damage done by the Poison Spell starts off moderate and then intensifies if the defending troops are forced to endure prolonged exposure to the spell in a similar manner that the Inferno Tower intensifies in single target mode, just at a much smaller scale damage wise. Enemy troops will not linger inside the toxic cloud either. As soon as the Poison Spell has been dropped onto the map enemy troops will run away from it as long as they are not forced into the poisonous cloud by the attacking troops. Defending troops will prioritize defending the base over protecting themselves and remain inside the Poison Spell all the while suffering damage and loss of speed as long at there are attacking troops within the poison's radius. The Poison Spell does NOT harm the attacking players troops.

There are several great ways to use the Poison Spell. I will give you my 2 favorite and leave the rest up to your own exploration. 1st is during a Hog Rider raid. The Hog Riders often trigger the Skeleton Traps early in the raid. These pesky Skeletons will follow the Hog Riders around the base and eventually wipe them out. As you lead the Hog Riders with the Heal Spells to keep their health up you also drop a Poison Spell right on top of one of the Heal Spells. This will quickly eliminate the Skeleton problem you were having. 2nd is at the beginning of a raid. This is by far the most effective time to use this spell. It is also the most popular time to use it. I'm sure you have already seen this done if you are past TH7. There is a simple trick to using the Poison Spell in this application that not everyone knows....
There are 3 things we all must try to do at the beginning of a raid.. especially a Clan War attack. That is Pull, Lure and Kill the enemy Clan Castle Troops. You will hear this term ALOT in Clash of Clans. The Poison Spell come into play during the Lure and Kill portion of this process. The next time you are attempting to Pull, Lure and Kill the CC Troops try this... after pulling the enemy CC troops out of the Clan Castle you Lure them into a corner of the base, outside the range of any defenses (if possible) with none other than the HEALER. She will just sit there hovering where ever you place her. Then as the enemy troops approach her within 12-14 tiles you drop the Poison Spell approx 8 tiles away from the Healer and then a 2nd Poison Spell directly behind the 1st spell and directly in front of the Healer. This will force the troops to push their way through the entire length of both spells before they would reach the Healer. (keep in mind that if there is only Balloons or a Lava Hound you would not be able to use the Healer trick because the troops would not pursue the Healer, they do not attack air troops. All other troops will AND if there is a mixture of air and ground attacking troops like the Dragon and Balloon, the Dragon will separate itself from the Balloon making it even easier to combat them because you will be ably to attack them one at a time instead of together..) As the troops enter into the 1st Poison Spell the attacker then deploys 2 sets of troops. One to distract and the other to attack. The possibilities are endless here but a good example would be to deploy a Golem in front of 4-5 Wizards. The Golem would distract the slowed and weakened defending troops while the Wizards would easily dispose of them.

The December 2016 update was kind to the Poison Spell granting it one more level to bring it's maximum level up to five and the effective radius of the spell was widened from a 4 tile area to a 6 tile area.
There is a reason that most of your top players will almost always bring at least one Poison Spell to every attack. They are a diverse spell with multiple possibilities for meaningful uses in all stages of the attack from the original CC pull and lure , to slowing down pursuing Heroes and smiting out those pesky Skeleton that always seem to be in the wrong place at the right time! One last side note for the Poison Spell. Try to predict where the defending troops are going to be and drop the Poison Spell there instead of directly on top of the defending troops heads only to watch them run right out of it a second later. A great place for a pre meditated Poison Spell would be right up next to the enemy Clan Castle so as soon as your troops trigger them to come out and join the party they are welcomed onto their own base with some toxic gas!
