EZE'S GUIDE TO THE TOWN HALL
We have all read the explanation for Town Hall (TH) when click on the info button in game. We all know that the TH is the center of the village and should be protected. What many people do not know is how. How do you manage your village around you TH, where is the best location for this vital building and when is sacrificing TH an acceptable loss for the greater good of your village or war base?
Lets start with your village on the defensive side of the game. When someone is attacking your village they have several primary targets and objectives. The more advanced the player the more expect from a raid, the more they will plan and prepare. On defense we set up our bases with these things in mind, always trying to out think our opponent. Setting up your Town Hall and the defensive
structures around it should be one of your main priorities.
Before we get into how we will set up our defenses lets touch
on why. We are protecting 2 things. Our loot and out star
count. Depending on what your specific priority may be will
determine exactly how you want to set up your base
defensively. From beginners to the elite players who are
trying to protect their loot, mainly their Dark Elixir, protecting
their TH will become 2nd on their priority list. For players
trying to protect their trophy count to maintain the league
standings, TH will be their number one priority.
Setting up TH to protect your loot: There are a number of factors to consider. Mainly who is attacking you and with what. To protect your loot TH will be considered a high Hit Point shielding building that will be placed near the Dark Elixir Storage to help slow down the enemy as they try to reach your precious DE. Many players will place their strongest defenses in between their TH and their DE storages in hopes that as the attacking players chops away at TH their defenses will eliminate them. So 1st use for TH will be to use it as a shield to protect the Dark Elixir (or any other storages that you may be trying to protect)
Setting up TH to protect your trophy count. In this scenario players that are in high leagues want to limit attacking players to 0-1 star when they are invading. This will limit the number of trophies removed from the defending player and awarded to the attacking player. I have seen two very popular tactics used that I think work well. 1st is to simply place the TH in the core of the base next to the Clan Castle. They make sure that the attacking players can not easily trigger the Clan Castle troops that will assist in defending the village. Then they set up their defenses in a similar fashion that they would in a war scenario which is to sacrifice the loot in the storages and use the storages as shields for their key defenses. So 2nd use for TH is to protect it from attacking armies at the expense of your loot.
Setting up TH as a decoy: The last method is to place TH near the outer walls or on occasion even place TH outside the walls and surround the structure with all of your available traps. This has a proven track record as well, especially in your village because no one gets a 2nd shot at your village (unlike war). Once the attacking player decides that your village is right for them they will usually begin their attack by attempting to destroy TH. As they start deploying troops and notice that all of the traps are around TH they will curse you under their breath and frantically drop their spells and heavy troops to try to push through the trap as quickly as possible. They will usually take TH but on many occasions they will be weakened to the point that they are unable to achieve one of their primary objectives which is to get the $$!
Once you have considered how you want to use your TH is your villages defense its time to focus on the other very important features of the game that Town Hall offers. The maximum level of every building and structure in your village depends on your TH's level. Every time you upgrade TH you will be given a number of new pieces to place in your village. So lets keep this section very simple. This game is designed for you to take on every other player in the game so do not make the mistake of upgrading your TH before all of your current pieces are completely maxed out for that particular TH level. The only exception would be if you are using The .5 Method. In that case visit the .5 Method section in our guide to see how Damage Inc. tackles this upgrade style. Otherwise take your time and max out!
In war the same 3 star system is used. One star is rewarded for destroying 50% of the base, one star is rewarded for Town Hall and the final star is rewarded for destroying 100% of the base. This means that if the defending player is able to protect TH well enough the best an attacking player can do is earn a one star. With this in mind… protect TH at all costs! The only exception to this philosophy comes into play when you are up against an elite clan full of 3 star attackers. When experienced players are up against these elite clans they will use an anti 3-star base which has a much different layout. The easiest way to make an anti 3-star base is to spread out your base as much as possible and place the TH on one side of the base and use it like you would any other storage, as a shield for some of your strongest defenses. Then overload the opposite side of the base with all of the Hidden Tesla towers and Giant Bombs grouped together. The idea behind this is that if a player takes the side of the base with TH in it first they will be too weak to finish off the base by the time they make it to the other side of the base where the hidden grouping of defenses are. On 2nd attacks attacking players will have to choose weather to tackle the overloaded section of the base 1st (which may leave them too weak to take TH) or if they are going to try to go through TH once again. We have a lot of fun with out anti 3-star bases, your clan should have at least 1/3 war bases designed in this manner.
Town Hall is one of the icons of the game of Clash of Clans. Every Town Hall level presents new challenges and obstacles for players to endure and overcome. Enjoy every Town Hall level. There is no need to rush through these different TH levels! They all offer the players tons of opportunities to learn the different aspects of the game. Clash of Clans is similar to chess or to my personal favorite Billiards, in a sense that it does not take long to understand the concepts and basic strategies, but to master this constantly upgrading and evolving masterpiece will take all of the time and patience that you can offer. There is an old saying that "the more you put in, the more you get out" and this holds true. Master your Town Hall level no matter what level it is and represent yourself and your clan well, with your own unique style of play and your very own approach to every challenge!
