GEAR UP ARCHER TOWER
Once you reach Level 6 on the Builder Base Archer Tower you can opt to GEAR UP one of your Home Village's Archer Towers. You can install a "switch that will allow the Archer Tower on your Home Village to drop the tower down to the Fast Attack mode which has a considerably shorter range that it's arrows are able to skillfully zipping through into lurking invaders. Although the range of the Archer Tower cut down the speed that the Archer Tower is able to shoot, reload and shoot again is dramatically faster.
There are ways to turn a potentially vegetate statistic into something positive and useful. When the Archer Tower is Geared Up and in Fast Attack Mode players will be able to place the Archer Tower closer to other defenses like the Air Defenses without the Air Defense actually being in the Archer Towers range... what does this mean and how is this a positive? Good Question. To answer we will take a quick peek at the Wizard Tower. When an air attack in going on and the attacker is using Lava Hounds, the attackers goal is to allow the Lava Hound to cross over as many defenses as possible, attracting the aggro from all of those mentioned defenses and therefor protecting the 2nd wave of troops the Balloons. If the defender is not careful and places the Wizard Tower too close to the Air Defenses the Wizard Tower will get stuck on the Lava Hound as it sits atop of the Air Defense with its bulky Hit Points. The Wizard Tower does Splash Damage which has little effect on Lava Hounds. If the defenser is careful he/ she places the Wizard Tower far enough away from the Air Defenses that the Lava Hounds are out of range when hovering over the Air Defense which allows the Wizard Tower to re-target the 2nd stage of the attack which will be the incoming Balloons. The Wizard's Area Splash Damage has a huge impact of the fragile Balloons which in magnified if the defender gets a little luck and the Balloons had already started to group up on their travels from the edge of the base on inward towards the Wizard Tower. (wow what a mouthful that was) So moral of the story is that the short ranged Wizard Tower can be nullified if placed too close to the Air Defenses or they can have a devastating impact on the attack if they are place just out of the Air Defenses and eventually the Lava Hounds range. The same will go for the Fast Attack, short range Archer Tower.

Once players Gear Up the Archer Tower they will enjoy the freedom of placing the Archer Tower on a larger portion of the base without getting tangled up in the Air Defense... if the defending player so chooses. So you see even when the range of the Archer Tower is cut down there can still be rewarding consequences if you know what to look for and understand how the balance of your defense most benefit you base during a wide variety of attacks!
