EZE'S GUIDE TO THE BOMB TOWER
Bomb Towers were added to the TH 8 village in the October 2016 update. They specialize is blasting large amounts of melee troops as the wander into their 6 tile range. Although 24 DPS at LvL 1 does not seem like alot, it adds up very quickly! Bomb Towers are best used in combination with other defenses that administer Area Splash Damage along with the Giant Bombs within their 6 tile range. The combination of the Giant Bomb blast and the bombs from the Bomb Tower could be the one-two punch that ends the raid.

Lets go a little further with the Bomb Tower and the
Giant Bomb relationship. There is a very specific
configuration that best suits the Giant Bombs and the
Bomb Tower. By placing 2 and even 3 Giant Bombs around
the Tower players will enjoy watching large groups of
troops crumble at their feet. The impact of the exploding
Giant Bombs, in combination the splash damage from the
Bomb Tower is more than enough to wipe out the Hog Rider
the Miner the Bowler and severely wound the Valkyrie. In addition to the Giant Bombs you should have several other supporting defenses within range of the Bomb Tower to help defend from the air attacks and add to their overall strength on ground defense. Make sure the Air Defenses are set up behind the Tower (in other words the set up would go wall, Bomb Tower, Air Defense) this does two things, it allows the Air Defenses to cover the Bomb Tower AND forces air troops to go through the Bomb Tower to get to their primary target of the AD.

Bomb Towers deal death damage from 150 in lvl 1 up to 340 in lvl 6. Once the Bomb Tower get destroyed it explodes and every troop within its blast radius of 6 tiles, 3 tiles in every direction from the center of the Bomb Tower takes on the damage. This could be a focal point on your base if set up properly. During ground attacks the attacking troops will group up when they encounter high HP buildings like storages. Try to arrange your base so attacking troops will have to go through a storage to get to the Bomb Tower and the assortment of complimentary traps and defenses that you have available at your Town Hall lvl. With a little luck the attacking troops will pile up when eliminating the storage and a horde of attackers will plow over the Bomb Tower and Giant Bombs etc.. as soon as the Bomb Tower goes down and explodes, it's death damage along with all of the other damage from the Giant Bombs and any other defense in the area may be just what it takes to end the raid! Grouping your defenses in arrangements that compliment each other will always be the way to go. Keep another factor in mind as well, attacking troops will have spells to help them along. These spells can help the attacker get through a completely evenly defended base so create hot spots in your defenses that attacking troops will have to endure giant bursts of damage. The Bomb Tower is a prime candidate for one of those hot spots because of their death damage.

When considering when to upgrade the Bomb Tower there are a few factors to keep in mind. 1st they have relatively high base weight as do all of the splash damage defenses BUT the value for that base weight may not be as high as the Wizard Tower for example. This is due to the limitations and the inability to defend against air troops. We do not have a concrete base weight number for the Bomb Tower on our Base Weight Page but we came up with a reasonable figure based on how much value SuperCell has placed on similar defenses. With all factors considered I think a reasonable time to upgrade the Bomb Tower would be last in line among the Splash Damage defenses but before the single target point defenses (in the Standard Method... in the .5 Method the Bomb Tower would be best to upgrade right before you start to add and upgrade the elite defenses for your Town Hall Level. For example in TH9 if using the .5 Method the last couple of defenses yo upgrade would be the Wizard Tower, then the Mortar then the Bomb Tower just before the X-Bow)

Overall the Bomb Tower is not a game changing defense but it will bring your overall ability to defend against the ground based attacks up a notch if you use it correctly. What is correctly? In a well designed area of your base that is behind a high HP building like a storage (for some troop build up) and with additional bombs around it to boost its death damage to the critical or fatal level. Don't expect too much out of them if you place them in a smaller compartment off by itself somewhere. The Bomb Tower needs to have a little help on defense but it goes out with a bang so try to partener it up with another splash damage defense as well as having an Air Defense close by so 1 Minion won't be ably to hover over it and belch black poo on it until its dead!
