EZE'S GUIDE TO THE RAGED BARBARIANS

The BASICS

Raged Barbarians are fast and powerful melee attackers. Unlike their Home Village counterparts they are extremely sturdy considering how many units you get in your camps. Raged Barbarians are used in several ways, each unique purpose has made them as versatile as they are effective. We will break down all Builder Base troops the same way, using Cost, Attack Style, Ease of Use, Special Ability and Overall Value as focal points.

COST

Raged Barbarians do not hit the 100,000 mark until level 5. This makes the one of the cheapest and easiest to upgrade of all the Builder Base Troops. This is vital when you have a limited amount of loot that you are able to farm every day. By the time they hit 100K you will have 10 units per Army Camp which puts them at 10,000 Elixir per unit. The do 61 DPS at level 5 and you get 10 Raged Barbarians which means that one Army Camp gives you 610 DPS (if all units are alive) that's a powerful punch!

The RAGED ABILITY

We can all thank SuperCell for keeping it simple when it comes to the Builder Base troops and their Special Abilities because many of them use their ability in their names. The Raged Barbarian s a perfect example of that. Every Raged Barbarian drops onto the map in their Raged state. The length of the Rage effects will depend on their level (of course) Some interesting stats for the Raged Barbarian. At level 6 (the 100k Elixir mark) there are 10 units per Army Camp, they do a combined 610 DPS then we can add another 427 DPS for the 1st four seconds to account for the Rage Ability. This is a combined 1037 DPS and is enough power to take down any building, including Builder Hall, in seconds. Let's keep something else in mind too. SuperCell had a wonderful way of balancing troop power and speed with their level of exposure and the eminent danger they face when running out in front of the protection of the Tanking Troops.

ATTACK STYLE

Most attackers will use one of 2 techniques with the Raged Barbarians. They either slowly trickle one unit in at a time and slowly take down one outer building at a time. This is especially useful if there are no, or only 1 defense that can target the attacking Barbarian. The 2nd method is to follow a tanking unit (like the Boxer Giant or Battle Machine) into the attack in a giant swarm of raging mustache power! This works great and has been the culprit to many many 3 star attacks but the Mega Mine or a cluster of Mines can put a damper on the Barbarian Party by wiping them all off of the map in one quick explosion. During their ability they can take down many buildings and overpower the defenses with their sheer numbers.

The SCOUT

Scouting for the Raged Barbarians may be one of the easiest assignments for a player. Whether they are a seasoned pro or at BH2 most players can tell you what to look out for. This is because there is nothing quite like it on the Home Village. Yes you guessed it, the Crusher. Every Raged Barbarian within the Crushers range meets the same fate. It resembles a pancake with a blonde mustache instead of syrup. Yumm. During the scouting process you will want to identify any 2x2 tile areas within the base limits. This could be the other nemesis of the Raged Barbarian, the Mega Mine (also instadeath for the blonde brawlers) Raged Barbarians are a fairly simple troop to understand. They goto the closest object and attack. The only thing that breaks that up is an early death or if the Guard Post Troops come within their range. If they encounter enemy troops they drop what they are doing (even if it means they stop with 1 HP left on the Builder Hall) and run down the Guard Post Troops. When scouting a base look for areas that every tile is covered by a building that you can see, trying to avoid the Crusher. Use your Hero or Boxer Giants to tank for the Raged Barbarians, use them with caution (don't be that person that drops 30 Raged Barbarians in the 1st 5 seconds) unless they are running into multiple defenses. If you see an area of a base that will give the Raged Barbarians problems you have one of 3 choices if you still decide you want to use the Raged Barbarians, 1. Use a combination or Raged Barbarians and Tanking Troops and team up on that section of the base. 2. Picture that being the last part of the base left on the board and start your attack on the other side of the village 3. If it's the Crusher your trying to avoid or another splash damaging defense try to send in a small party (2-3ish) and then send another group on 2-3 literally 3 seconds after the 1st set. The Crusher will kill the 1st set of troops but the 2nd could survive long enough to take down the crusher or at least leave the Crusher in a severely damaged condition.

Timing is everything with toops like the Raged Barbarian. Watch all of the replays on our base and learn from all of those who attack you. Let your opponents be your teachers... that'll show them!

EASE OF USE

There are some people that just have the best blind luck. Those people will drop 20 Raged Barbarians and they will engulf the entire Builder Base and rip through the whole thing, dodging all of the obstacles and never trigger one trap. Personally if I want to find 6 traps I simply drop 6 Barbarians and they will run straight for every Mine or Spring Trap in the village. This being said Raged Barbarians are either the easiest if not one of the easiest troops to operate. Their pathing makes sense to most attackers. Keep in mind that unlike the Home Village once your troops target a building, they may run right by several others to get to the building that they originally targeted. This has a tendency to look odd to the attacker too. Good example... the Raged Barbarian crushes the last building in a section of walls that have an opening in the opposite corner from where they are standing. Once the last building in that section of walls is down, the closest building is 2 tiles away om the opposite side of a set of walls. The Barbarian could run to the other side of that compartment to the opening and then continue to run on the back side of the wall to the original building that he had targeted, passing 3-4 potential targets on the way. We have all seen these Builder Base troops do this and because in the home village the troops that target any building will almost always attack the next building they come into contact with, this will seem like a fail in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) of that troop but it's not. How do you help prevent these oddities from happening? Use your funneling techniques to clear all of the outer buildings before you enter the base and give the Raged Barbarians the best chance to stay with the tanking troops or within the compartments that you intended them to invade.Final thoughts... Raged Barbarians are simple to use as long as you are mindful of all of their pathing possibilities and have a decent plan for them.

COST

Starting out at 3500 Elixir for a lvl 2 upgrade makes the Raged Barbarians a steal! I understand that War Weight is not the same as it has been in previous years BUT SuperCell had at one point assigned 800 (according to our sources) War Weight to these rugged troops while they assigned a 60,000 War Weight tarrif on the Night Witch's hides. This actually caused a chain reaction with the elite players of the Builder Base. To prevent extremely difficult matchups many elite players learned how to use the Boxed Giant, Raged Barbarian and Bomber combo as a super low weighing alternative to the maxed Baby Dragon or Night Witch armies. The to top it all off the Raged Barbarians end up being very stout overall troops in the Maxed out category leading to an overabundant use of the Raged Barbarians at the elite level of play. Combine a sturdy disposition with simple game mechanics and you have yourself a winner most of the time. The Raged Barbarians max out at 3,200,000 Elixir which is about 400K less than the average maxed cost.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As you add up the pros and cons of the Raged Barbarians you start to see a clear dominant picture. Unlike the Barbarians of the Home Village the Raged Barbarian manages to hold their own with most of the heavyweight hitters. As the ever expanding list of maxed players continue to swell at a sprinters pace, many of them have a Raged Barbarian army in their tool bag of attacks just waiting for the base that exposes the Crushers a little too much. Look for the Raged Barbarian to come beating on your Builder Base front door at least 1 out of 8 attacks. Remember a great way to stop them is to create indecision for the attacking player by leaving plenty of potential Mega Mine locations through out your Builder Base!
