GEAR UP ARCHER TOWER
Once you level your Builder Base Archer Tower up to 4 then you can begin to use your Master Builder on your Home Village! He can "Gear Up" the Archer Towers on the Home Village to the rapid-fire "Fast Attack" Archer Tower. Like the Fast Attack Archer Tower compared to the normal Archer Tower on your Builder Base there will be advantages in power and speed once your Archer Tower is Geared Up BUT there are also small disadvantages which come in the form of a reduced range.

EZE'S GUIDE TO THE ARCHER TOWER
Archer Towers are very similar to Cannons in cost and damage, they have a slightly longer range and similar Hit Points. The big difference is that Archer Towers can shoot down air targets which makes them significantly more valuable than the Cannon.
Archer Towers are used in a number of different ways, all depending on how (and what) that particular player want to focus his ranged defenses on. For example players that expect to see lots of Dragons or Balloons flying in over the walls may want to center several Archer Towers and a supporting role with the Air Defenses. Players that want to protect their collectors that are outside their Walls tend to keep their Archer Towers on the outer walls because they have such a great range to their arrows.
Archer Towers work best when they are used in combination with other defenses such as the Cannons and Wizard Towers. They also compliment each other well so pay close attention to their defensive ring when placing them on your base. Personally I like to use them in blocks of four with two storages and an Air Defense. This forces air troops to push their way through both storages (which have very high HP) in order to eliminate both of the defenses that can target and destroy them. This works especially well in the TH7-8 ranges where the Dragaloon attack is such a devastating threat to your base.
There are several strong opinions about when to upgrade the Archer Towers. Therefore there is no statement that can be considered a fact when it comes to what order to upgrade certain defenses, BUT… I have an ongoing theory that has been working well for Damage Inc. pay attention to the cost of your defenses after every Town Hall upgrade. The higher the value
of the defensive structure the higher the cost to
upgrade it becomes. With this in mind I always
suggest upgrading the Archer Towers 2nd to last,
right before the Cannons. Remember that every
upgrade that you complete you will be adding
Base Weight to your village. {This is how the
computer looks at your base and judges how
strong it is and is what helps the computer
match your base up with your opponents. (in
war especially) So with your base weight always
lingering somewhere in the back of your mind
be sure to make all of your upgrades as valuable
as possible. (you can refer to the Base Weight
Page in this website. It should help get the
concept of what adds the most base weight to
your base)
Overall the Archer Tower is a vital part of your defensive strength. Remember that if you don't spread them out throughout your base advanced players will find the hole in your sky defenses and deploy smaller troops like Minions in those holes and they will eat away at your base unchallenged. Keep them close to Air Defenses to assist them in the fight against the Laloon, Loonian and Dragaloon and try to group them with other defense to help boost their potency.
